Things I Learned on our Family Vacation

I normally do these “reflective” kind of posts on Fridays, but I was just too swept up in Paradise last week to sit down and really use my brain for anything productive.  But now that I’ve been sucker-punched by reality once again, I decided to look back on the finer things I discovered on our family vacation….

** Every day should end in a hammock.

** Photobombers are all kinds of AWESOME.  (See above picture for proof….)

** Drinks taste better when they come with a tiny umbrella.

** I love not cooking.

** Only having to worry about getting a good seat by the pool is pretty darn refreshing.

** “Island time” is definitely my kind of time.

** There’s an unfortunate weenie bikini in every sandy crowd.

** My son could win a bacon eating contest without even trying.

** Taking a dump at 9,740 feet above sea level is pretty darn cool when you’re eight years old.

** It’s important to fill up your gas tank before driving to the top of a volcano.

** Flip flops make your feet smile.

** I REALLY love not cooking.

** Fear is a foreign concept to my adventurous little snorkeling daughter.

** You just can’t beat a Hawaiian sunset.

** It sucks to have to sit next to the lady eating CornNuts on a nine hour flight.

** Re-entry into the real world is one ginormous buzzkill.

You’re making me want to go on vacation immediately. Although with 5 kids under the age of 12 it’s more work than relaxation at this point. I spend most of the time saying ‘put your swim suit back on’ and ‘no the beach is not like the cat’s litter box’ and ‘the whole world doesn’t need to know you peed in the pool’. Sigh. One day they will be civilized…..I hope. And I agree, re-entry into the real world is a big buzzkill.

  4. Sounds like a great time!! I often think I would have a totally different outlook on life if I lived somewhere warm and tropical.

Just was looking through your Instagram pics on your Twitter page – I recognized that waterfall your son was standing in front of on the Road to Hana. I swam in it when we visited there! That was my favorite day in Maui. Looks like you guys had a great time!
